Our Story

We matched on a dating app while we were both visiting San Diego - despite living just a few miles apart from each other in Oakland. We bonded over our shared love of dumplings, traveling, and our multi-cultural backgrounds. Our first date was supposed to be a gnocchi-making class, but it got canceled. Four years later, on that same date, we finally made it to our pasta class. This time, the room was ours - and what was almost our first date became Journey's proposal!

For the last 5 years we've said "yes" to just about everything: learning to kite surf on our 4th date, jetsetting to 12 countries together, taking sailing lessons, running a half marathon...to trying to (re)learn Mandarin together. Nicole even proposed back in Mandarin while celebrating Lunar New Year with Journey's family in China.

If there's one phrase that sums us up, it is "hurry up and relax." We are always up for something new, but also love slowing down and enjoying the moment. The phrase was coined on one of our many trips when Nicole was rushing Journey to "hurry up" so they could get to their pool side masssages a little sooner. Hawai'i felt like the perfect place to celebrate because it brings together so much of what we love: Great food, time by the water, and a blend of cultures. Most of all, it creates the feeling we wanted for our wedding weekend: relaxed, joyful, and centered around quality time together with family and friends. Now hurry up and get here.
